Frequently Asked Questions
Is Outlook on the web the same as the new Outlook for Windows?
They look and work almost the same, and most settings carry over between them. Classic Outlook for Windows is a separate desktop app with its own menus, so some steps differ there.
Is Outlook on the web free?
Yes for personal use: you can sign in at outlook.com with a free Microsoft account. Work and school accounts get Outlook on the web through their Microsoft 365 subscription.
How do I set an out-of-office reply in Outlook on the web?
Go to Settings > Account > Automatic replies, turn them on, optionally set a time period, write your message and select Save. Our automatic replies guide shows each screen.
Do these guides cover OneDrive too?
Yes. The OneDrive section covers the recycle bin, backing up to an external drive, saving Outlook emails to OneDrive and the “make sure OneDrive is running” message.
