How to Sign Out of Google Drive on iPhone and iPad

To sign out of the Google Drive app on an iPhone, open Drive, tap your profile picture at the top right, tap Manage accounts on this device, then tap Remove from this device. The Drive app has no plain Sign out button.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to sign out of Google Drive on iPhone and iPad, how to sign out in Safari or on a computer, and how to sign out of a phone you no longer have.

Remove your account from the Drive app on iPhone

A quick, honest note: I don’t have an iPhone on my desk, so the phone steps here follow Google’s own Drive Help page. The computer screenshots are from my demo account.

1. Open the Google Drive app.
2. Tap your profile picture at the top right.
3. Tap Manage accounts on this device.
4. Tap Remove from this device, and confirm if the app asks.

Removing the account doesn’t delete it. Your files stay in Drive, and you can still use the account on other devices. Anything you saved from Drive to your phone stays on the phone, though.

One thing to know first. Google says removing an account removes it from all apps on the device, so Gmail and the other Google apps lose it too. That’s exactly what you want before you sell or give away the phone.

Same steps on an iPad

The Drive app works the same way on iPad. Google’s help page covers iPhone and iPad together: profile picture, Manage accounts on this device, then Remove from this device.

Only want a break from one account? If you’ve added several, tap Manage accounts on this device and turn off the switch next to an account. That hides it in Drive without removing it.

To use a different account instead, tap your profile picture and pick it. Files stay separate for each account, which helps if you save photos from Drive to your iPhone from more than one.

Signing out in Safari on iPhone

If you open Drive in Safari instead of the app, go to google.com, tap your profile image at the top right, and tap Sign out.

To clear the account from the list too, stay signed out, tap Sign in, then Sign in with a different account, then Remove. Pick the account and tap Done.

Google also notes that signing in to a Google app signs you in to Safari automatically. Your device is only fully signed out when no Google app still has an account on it.

Log out of Google Drive on a computer

On drive.google.com, click your profile picture at the top right. It’s the same picture you see when you change your Google Drive profile picture.

When I had several accounts signed in, the card only offered Sign out of all accounts. I had to click the arrow to expand the account list before that button showed up. You can’t sign out of just one account there.

Signing out of the browser doesn’t touch Drive for desktop. If it’s installed, turn off Google Drive sync on that computer as well.

Sign out of a lost iPhone from another device

If the phone is lost or already gone, do it remotely. Go to myaccount.google.com and open Security & sign-in. Under Your devices, click Manage all devices.

Google asked me to enter my password again before the list opened. Then pick the iPhone and click Sign out. If you see several sessions with the same device name, sign out of all of them.

When it doesn’t work

• Can’t find Manage accounts on this device? Tap the profile picture at the top right of the Drive home screen, not the menu on a file.
• Account comes right back? Another Google app or Safari may still be signed in. Check Gmail and google.com in Safari.
• Work or school account? Your Google Workspace admin manages it and can sign you out. Ask them, and read how personal and business Drive accounts differ.
