The first method that I am going to share with you is pretty simple and easy to execute. The only issue with this method is that it doesn’t work for everyone.

However, the biggest problem with this is that it appears as a notification and automatically vanishes after a couple of seconds. Additionally, many users have reported that they cannot see any such notification on their browser.

If that is the case, don’t worry. We have a few other techniques that you can follow.

It is really a great technique, and it works on almost all desktop browsers.

However, the biggest disadvantage of this technique is that it counts subfolders as well as files. So, if you only want to count files, you have to perform this method in a folder that doesn’t contain any subfolders, or after selecting all the files, you have to deselect subfolders manually.

But overall, I don’t think it will be a very big concern or deal-breaker for you. However, if you still want a better solution, check out the next method.

While the aforementioned techniques are easy to execute and follow, they are not efficient in counting files inside sub-folders. If you are concerned about this part, this method will be perfect for you.

Here, we will use a Google Sheet add-on named File Cabinet. File Cabinet is an awesome Google Sheet add-on that can help you list files within any Google Drive folder. The best thing about this add-on is that it can list files inside subfolders.

Once fetched, it gives you detailed information about the total files, their Google Drive links, and more.

To count files using this method, you have to follow these simple steps –

  • First of all, go to this link and install the File Cabinet by Awesome Gapps add-on. It will ask you to log in using your Google account credentials. Simply do it.
  • Once you log in, it will ask you to provide permission to access your Google Drive files. To use this add-on, you have to allow those permissions.
  • Once done with that, go to Google Sheets and create a blank spreadsheet.
  • From the menu bar, click on the Extensions, and from the drop-down menu, hover over Files Cabinet by Awesome Table and click on the Start Listing option.
  • The add-on will appear just before the right sidebar. Here, you have to click on the Current Folder option.
  • A pop-up box will appear. It will show you all of the folders available inside your Google Drive. Select the folder whose files you want to count.
  • After that, you have to click on the Create list of files button.

After this, the add-on will take a couple of seconds to a few minutes, depending on the number of files available in your folder. Once the scanning process completes, it will list all files with their file URL, file type, owner info, and more.
